If it's time for your Sim to expand their family tree, having a baby is a good way for your Sim to pass their genetics along to their offspring. Getting your Sims to have a baby is a fairly straightforward process - it just takes a romantic relationship and a place to WooHoo! This wikiHow will teach you how to have a baby in The Sims 4.

Steps

    Choose a Sim with the ability to get pregnant. The gender of your Sim doesn't matter, as long as they can get pregnant and their partner can get others pregnant.

    • Make sure there are less than eight Sims living on the lot. If your Sim is part of an eight-Sim household, someone will need to move out before your Sim can get pregnant.
    • Only Young Adults and Adults can get pregnant. Teens and Elders cannot get pregnant without third-party hacks.

    Make your Sim friends with a Sim who can impregnate others. If your Sim isn't already in a relationship with a Sim that can impregnate them, you'll need to have them befriend one. Find or create a Sim who can get others pregnant and build their friendship with the Friendly or Funny interactions.

    • Female Sims you didn't create usually can't impregnate you.
    • You may want to ensure the Sim is single. If they're taken, it can be harder to build romance.

    Build up the romantic relationship between the two Sims. In order for your Sims to be able to WooHoo, they'll need a romantic relationship of at least 40% to 50%.[1] If their relationship is higher than that, they're less likely to get rejected.

    Direct your Sim to Try For Baby. To have your Sims try for a baby, click on a place where the Sims can normally WooHoo, select Try For Baby With... , and select the name of the other Sim. Your Sims can Try For Baby in a...[2]

    Tip: Double beds cannot be placed against a wall. If they are, the WooHoo and Try For Baby option won't come up.

    Direct your Sim to take a pregnancy test. Unlike in previous games, there is no chime after Try For Baby to tell you whether your Sim is pregnant or not. Instead, click on the toilet and select Take Pregnancy Test , which costs 15 Simoleons.

    • If your Sim is pregnant, you'll get the "Eating for Two" notification, and your Sim will walk over to their partner and share the news.
    • If your Sim is not pregnant, they'll get a Sad moodlet and you'll need to try again.
    • Don't stress if your Sim is incredibly poor and can't afford the test; if they're pregnant, the game will give you the "Eating for Two" notification after a few in-game hours.

    Did You Know? While most Sims will get a Happy moodlet during their pregnancy, a Sim with the Hates Children trait will gain a Tense moodlet instead.

    Influence the pregnancy. If you want your Sim to have a certain number of children, there are ways to increase the chances of that happening besides letting the game choose. To have twins or triplets, buy the Fertile reward trait. This costs 3000 Satisfaction points. (Fertility Massages are an option for players with Spa Day, but they must be administered before the Sim tries for a baby.)[3]

    • If you want your Sim to have a boy, direct them to eat carrots or listen to alternative music on the radio.
    • If you want your Sim to have a girl, direct them to eat strawberries or listen to pop music.

    Tip: While there are cheats to make your Sim have twins or triplets or to speed up their pregnancy, they're disabled without the use of third-party hacks.

    Wait for your Sim to give birth. At the end of the third day of pregnancy, your Sim will go into labor and get a Very Uncomfortable moodlet. Once your Sim goes into labor, you have two options:

    • Keep your Sim at home. They'll be in labor for a few hours, and then give birth.
    • Send your Sim to give birth at a hospital. Click on your Sim and send them to the hospital. If you don't have Get To Work, the Sim will disappear off the lot for a few hours; if you do, you'll go with them to the hospital. (If you choose to send them to the hospital, their partner will come with them.) They'll give birth at the hospital and bring their child home.

    Make sure one Sim can get pregnant and the other Sim can get others pregnant. Check your household size as well; you can only have eight Sims per household, and if you already have eight Sims, you can't have a baby unless someone else dies or moves out. You should also check that the spot for them to WooHoo is accessible, and not blocked off by walls, objects, or locked doors. (If your Sims still can't Try For Baby after you've made sure everything should be working, try with a new save to see if that works, and check that you don't have any outdated or incompatible mods that could be interfering.)

    Yes. This will appear in the custom gender options in Create-a-Sim - when you click on the plumbbob icon in the upper left-hand corner (next to the "Hello, my name is..."), the pregnancy options are in the dropdown box labeled "..." under the Male and Female icons. By default, the game will make female Sims able to get pregnant and male Sims able to get other Sims pregnant, so if you didn't edit the custom gender settings and the Sims are in a straight relationship, they should be able to Try For Baby.

    You cannot give birth to more than 3 babies. Although, with mods, you can in fact have more than 3 babies.

    The kids will never get taken away if your sim leaves the house. They will automatically go to daycare. Although if you are at home, you can go one sim day before your kids get taken away.

    In the Sims 4, you can hire a nanny. All you have to do is click on the phone. Then click 'hire a service'. Then, you will need to hire the nanny. If all of the adults in the house are gone, you will get the option to hire a nanny or send them to daycare. Both work fine, but only the latter is free.

    Click on your Sim while they're in labor and select "Have Baby at Hospital". If you have Get to Work installed, you'll be asked if you want to go to the hospital with your Sim; click "Join", and select any Sims you want to go with your pregnant Sim. Without Get to Work, your Sim will just disappear off the lot until the baby is born.

  • With City Living, the On Ley Line lot trait increases your Sim's chances of twins and triplets.

  • When two aliens try for a baby, there is a chance both of them will become pregnant.

  • With the Get To Work expansion, Sims who cannot normally get pregnant can be abducted by aliens, which will result in them having an alien baby.

  • If your Sim can't get pregnant, they can adopt a child through the phone or computer for 1000 Simoleons.

  • Sims with the "Fertile" reward trait (which can be purchased with Satisfaction Points) are more likely to have twins or triplets.

  • You can cheat pregnancies using third-party mods like MC Command Center.

  • Babies will be taken away from the household if they're neglected.

  • Sims cannot have more than triplets. Quadruplets, quintuplets, etc. are not possible without mods.
